Who’s actually making your technology decisions?

If the honest answer is “my IT company,” “whichever vendor called last,” or “me, at 11pm, hoping I got it right” — you’re not alone. Most businesses don’t have a technology problem. They have a decision problem: no roadmap, no owner, and advice that comes from the people selling the solution.

Independent IT Advisor · Founder, Aspendora Technologies

Hi, I’m Lacy — and I have nothing to sell you but the right answer.

I founded Aspendora Technologies in 2010 and have spent 15 years as the outside technology brain for hundreds of Houston businesses — the person owners call when they need a straight answer. My consulting practice puts that experience to work at the decision level, with one rule that keeps it honest:

I make money one way: you pay me for advice and for the work.

I don’t resell hardware or software. I earn no vendor commissions or kickbacks. When I recommend a platform, a vendor — or a managed-IT provider — my only stake is that it’s right for you. If you need ongoing managed IT, I’ll point you to the best fit and tell you plainly whether that’s my own team at Aspendora Technologies or someone else.

“You deserve an advisor whose incentives point the same direction as yours. That’s the whole idea: straight advice, and work I stand behind — because I don’t profit from the answer.”

A clear, three-step path

Assess where you are, do the work, and keep a steady hand on the wheel.

1

Assess

We start with an honest look at your technology — systems, spend, and risk — and how well it supports where the business is going. You get a score, a roadmap, and a budget.

2

Do the work

I don’t stop at the slide deck. I do the actual work — the migration, the network, the phone system, the platform decision — or oversee it to a clean finish.

3

Advise

I stay in your corner as your fractional CIO — keeping the roadmap moving, managing vendors and budget — so the next decision is already in good hands.

Three ways to work together

Start with an assessment, bring me in for a specific project, or keep me on call as your fractional CIO.

Assess

Technology Assessment & Roadmap

Know exactly where you stand — and where to go next.

Fixed fee quoted to scope

An independent read on your technology — systems, spend, and risk — and how well it actually supports where the business is going. You leave with a prioritized roadmap and a budget you own, in plain English. It's the best first step, and it feeds everything else.

Do the work

Projects & Implementation

The right decision — and the hands to carry it out.

$200/hr or fixed-fee

Where a lot of advisors stop at the slide deck, I do the actual work. Microsoft 365 migrations, network design, phone systems, cloud, vendor selection — planned properly and implemented cleanly. Billed at $200/hour, or a fixed price agreed in writing when the scope is clear.

Advise

Fractional CIO

A technology leader in your corner — a few hours a month.

$2,500–$8,500 per month

Ongoing, executive-level technology guidance without a full-time hire. I own your roadmap, sit in on the decisions, manage vendors and budget, and keep the plan moving — for a fraction of the cost of a full-time CIO. The steady hand that keeps every other project from becoming a one-off.

What making decisions blind actually costs

The pattern is always the same: decisions made by urgency instead of importance, guided by whoever profits from the outcome — compounding into fragile, expensive systems nobody chose.

What it looks like with the right person in your corner

Technology stops being a source of anxiety and starts being a lever for growth — decisions owned and deliberate, and the work actually done right.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a managed-IT provider (MSP)?+

No. I focus on consulting, strategy, and project work — not ongoing day-to-day management. If you need managed IT and monthly support, I’ll point you to the right provider, including my own team at Aspendora Technologies, and tell you honestly which is the better fit for you.

Do you do break/fix or computer repair?+

No. I don’t do break/fix or bench repair. I do project work and strategic guidance — Microsoft 365, networks, phone systems, cloud, and technology strategy — done properly and owned end to end.

How does pricing work?+

Straightforward. Hourly consulting and project work is $200/hour (hour blocks can be pre-purchased). For defined projects I’ll give you a fixed price in writing before we start. Ongoing guidance runs as a monthly Fractional CIO retainer ($2,500–$8,500). No products, no commissions — you pay me for advice and the work.

What are you actually independent from?+

I don’t resell hardware or software and I earn no vendor commissions or kickbacks. When I recommend a platform, a vendor — or a managed-IT provider — my only stake is that it’s right for you. That’s the whole point of hiring an advisor instead of a salesperson.

What kinds of projects do you take on?+

Microsoft 365 migrations and cleanup, network redesigns, FreePBX/Asterisk phone systems, open-source implementations, cloud strategy and migration, vendor selection, AI/Copilot adoption, and technology assessments and roadmaps. Each engagement is scoped to what you actually need.
